When Annie is given the opportunity to work as assistant to a director who is filming a rom-com in her neighborhood, she meets Drew Danforth, the total opposite of her perfect Tom Hanks.

I gave Waiting For Tom Hanks four stars, loving the growth of Annie and Drew’s relationship. I loved the way Annie disagreed with Drew in the beginning but the more they hung out with each other when they saw each other, the closer they realize that they have chemistry that they didn’t know was there. Even when Drew went into Annie’s usual café where all her friends were; Chloe, Nick, Gary, and more, it seems as if Annie sees more of Drew than she thought.

I love the way Annie is a passionate rom-com lover and Drew makes her passion fuel as they argue about rom-coms when they have a chance. Throughout the book they seemed to connect slowly even though Annie is determined to say that Drew is not her Tom Hanks even when Chloe, her best friend convinces Annie that she doesn’t need to find her Tom Hanks with a houseboat to be happy. I really enjoyed reading how Annie realized slowly throughout the book that she didn’t always need her Tom Hanks and that there was truly chemistry between Drew and her even when Drew seemed to be confident and arrogant and just an actor who doesn’t care — which she doesn’t expect to change when she starts to get to know him.

Drew was a character I knew I would fall in love with immediately when I first read about him in the summary and knew that even though people saw him one way, I’m glad that we were able to see a different side of him and that Annie discovered this other side to him. I think that when he started to truly show Annie who he really was, Annie finally realized that Drew was actually different and not at all the immature actor she thought he was.

Although the end conflict seemed like something that could have done with a little bit more work, the story was lovely to read and I enjoyed reading about Drew and Annie. Their story was unique and truly something I’ve never read before which was what made this a four star read.
