A Review On King of Scars By Leigh Bardugo

I was first introduced to Leigh Bardugo’s GrishaVerse series by my friend last year, prompting me to buy her Shadow and Bones trilogy and Six of Crows duology. It is to this day one of my favorite series and you guys can go check it out on Youtube what I thought about the whole series in my video here.

The King of Scars is book one of the Nikolai duology and I rated this book five stars because there of the way it incorporated elements from Six of Crows and Shadow and Bones. As Nikolai Lantsov, our main character, was featured in both series, I expected that this spinoff series was going to be a step into his life as king which then leads to a serious conflict and I was given that with many pleasant surprises along the way.

Nikolai is absolutely charming and Zoya, our second main character out of three total, needs to deal with that charm on a daily basis. Their banter is very cute and I marked down nearly all my favorite moments between the two. I very much expected them to get together at the end of the book, but like Six of Crows, I am left waiting and was only giving the adorable tension between Nikolai and Zoya.

There were definitely some parts I found unnecessary, however the plot twists and turns made up for the unnecessary parts and I actually discovered more as I was reading it. I definitely think that with each Leigh Bardugo book I read, the more I realize there are parts in the books that may seem redundant, but then as I read further along, they really fit with the plot.

The GrishaVerse books have continuously left me pleasantly surprised and that is why I rated King of Scars a five star. They mystery, tension, and plot twists are the main focus I have with stories similar to the GrishaVerse series and so far, King of Scars ticks all those boxes.

I’m very excited for book two in this duology and and I’m nervous and excited to see what happens next.

I hope you guys have a great day, please like and comment down below if you enjoyed this book as well or if you plan on reading it!
